“The focus of my work is the tension between the concrete aspects of painting and the imagery. The surface of the painting is the plane of tension. My process is basically reductive and the imagery is essentially pop and surrealist with sources derived from the quotidian to the more dreamlike, from clothing, advertising, illustration, to early cinema and daydreaming. The Images are built in a mechanical way, often using a grid, which gives representational images a more formal or abstract quality and traces of which— pencil lines, numbers— give the painting a less formal, more poetic or emotional quality.”
SEAN GRANDITS, a painter, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
