Nicholas Rynearson
NICHOLAS RYNEARSON is a multi-media artist based in Brooklyn. His artistic practice includes assemblage, collage, drawing, and painting, as well as conceptual work. He regularly uses a reduced visual vocabulary to focus on formal elements and explore the material qualities of the media he works with. Found objects and non-decorative materials feature prominently and provide parameters within which individual works or series unfold. His work also draws inspiration from careful observation of art history, in particular the movements emerging from and responding to abstract expressionism.
"In my work, I always seek a balance between immediately comprehensible simplicity and a richness that rewards looking closely. My process is rooted in experimentation and often driven by a desire to celebrate the physical properties of the materials I work with. I see myself in dialogue with the artistic movements of the late 20th century, especially minimalism, whose core proposition, for me, is the invitation to see differently."
