Deborah Simon

DEBORAH SIMON studied sculpture at the Repin Institute of Art in Leningrad, USSR, received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from School of Visual Arts in New York. She has shown around the country and internationally at La Halle Saint Pierre in Paris, France, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Wisconsin, Hudson River Museum and St. Ann’s Warehouse’s Labapalooza! in Brooklyn. NY.

Her work has been extensively written about, especially in the context of embroidery in contemporary art. De Fil En Aiguille, La broderie dans l’art contemporain was published in France in 2018 (and released in English in 2020). Her work has been featured in Threads: Contemporary Embroidery in Art, Vogue, Embroidery, and HEY! magazines; and highlighted online at Hyperallergic, HiFructose, Time Out Chicago, and Designboom.

 She received a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant and is a Sculpture Space and Vermont Studio Center fellow. She was a resident of the Saint Ann’s Warehouse Puppet Lab  fellowship and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Program, and a recipient of the Cultural Space Subsidy Program in Brooklyn, NY. She lives and works in Brooklyn.
